This VOX Boom Advanced Seminar/Comedy Show has been created specifically for ACTING STUDENTS in College or University FINE ARTS programs. The 2-hour SEMINAR is a show in itself, featuring two hilarious, informative and gifted performers mixing comedy routines with insights gained over decades of working experience.

During each Seminar, two actors - Mark DeCarlo, and a rotating cast of VO Super Stars- will share war stories, teach audition and performance techniques, take Q&A, and tell students all the things their acting schools CAN’T, like:
  • The details on the current BOOM in Animation production: Shrek, Nemo, Madagascar, etc.
  • Adapting stage/film/TV acting to CARTOON VOICE OVER
  • AUDITION techniques for Animation
  • CREATING a character for a new animation based on just a line drawing of a static character
  • VOCAL techniques to increase and maximize your range
  • IMPROVISING for Animation
The second half of the show is all audience participation.

Several students will be chosen to create new and unique voice characterizations. They will be led into a sound proof booth, then brought out on stage one at a time. They'll see series of new, as yet unknown cartoon characters, on an overhead projector, and our Actors will lead them through the process of creating perfect voices.

Using the tips and techniques they’ve just learned, the students will eventually arrive at their definitive sound for a favorite new character. Then, as this character, each student will improvise a scene with one of our Actor’s famous characters, based on a suggestion from the audience.

Performing under the projected images of the famous and the new character, the two will have a short, cartoon conversation, sure to be entertaining and memorable.

After the students have recorded their best takes, we’ll play them back so the audience can decide which characterization is the most lifelike, funny and engaging. The actors and audience will have the opportunity to critique the performances.

A vote of applause determines a winner, who receives a once in a lifetime prize: A CUSTOM MADE CHARACTER VOICE GREETING for their voicemail.

After the voting, we’ll play clips of the Hollywood actors who actually GOT the jobs of voicing the as-yet-unknown characters. The seminar will wrap up with the actors answering any final questions and sending everyone home happy.

The key to this show/seminar is the people presenting it. These actors are working artists, at the tops of their games, performing some of the best characters in animation today.

Each seminar features two actors, Mark DeCarlo and one of his award-winning friends:

Mark DeCarlo - the voice behind Hugh Neutron (Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius)
Rob Paulsen - the voice behind Pinky (Pinky and the Brain)
Tom Kenney - the voice behind Sponge Bob Square Pants
Ken Campbell - the voice behind Baby Bob

Their combined credits include the voices behind: Hugh Neutron (Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius) Carl Wheezer (Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius) Sponge Bob Square Pants Baby Bob (the Quizno’s baby) Pinky (Pinky and the Brain) Regular cast members of Steve Odekerk’s ThumbMation series. Yakko (The Animaniacs) ... And many others.
